2 Weeks

Kalia is two weeks old today. I can't believe how such a tiny little person can totally change your life. Even though, I have experienced it before with my other kids, it is still amazing. We are getting to know each other and I am falling in love with her a little more each day. It has only been two weeks and yet I can't imagine my life without her.

She's Here!!!

Kalia Lisalei Reid was born on April 20, 2009 at 2:03 pm. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 13 oz. and 20 in. long. We are overjoyed to have her join our family. She had jaundice at first and had to be under lights at the hospital and when we got home. She didn't like the lights at all and it was really hard to keep her under them. She was supposed to be under the lights any time she wasn't eating, but everytime I would put her under them she would wake up and cry. We did our best though and both of us were very happy on Monday when the dr. said she didn't have to stay under them any longer. She is a good baby and we are so excited she is here. Ella loves having a sister and wants to hold her and kiss her all the time. Jace thinks it is hilarious when she has the hiccups and laughs and laughs. Gordon is a doting big brother.

Here is the mask she had to wear while under the lights to protect her eyes. It made her look like an alien baby.

Under the Weather

Ella is feeling sick today. She has a cold. I noticed in the morning that she was lying on the couch (something she never does.) When I started getting lunch ready she said to me in the weakest, saddest little voice, "Mom, my leg hurts and I can't walk to the bar so can I have a tray?" I controlled my urge to laugh (I think she is milking it a little bit) and told her that indeed she could have a tray. Sometimes we all need a little extra TLC. So here she is with her OJ, chicken noodle soup and saltine crackers. I hope my little princess will feel better soon.

Winter Reprieve

Last week we escaped the snow and headed down to sunny AZ to send some time with Grandpa and Grandma O. Uncle Jared and one of his roommates were there with us too for part of the time. We had a wonderful time and tried to be outside as much as possible.

We had a tea party with Grandma. We drank a whole pitcher full of Raspberry Lemonade. It doesn't seem like you are drinking that much when you drink out of a tiny cup.


We were there for Grandma's birthday! Ella loves to cook and bake (Martha Stewart is her hero). Grandma let her help in the kitchen everyday. She loved making cupcakes for Grandma's birthday.

In addition to our culinary activities we went on several walks around the neighborhood. By calling them exploring adventures we were able to coax Gordon and Ella to join us (and get them out of the house so Jace could get his nap.) Ella even made up an exploring song which we sang over and over.

We made a few trips to the park, including having a picnic lunch one day. The kids were so excited about the pigeons and seagulls hanging around that it was hard to get them to eat. Throwing rocks in the lake was another favorite activity. We had to pull Jace away kicking and screaming.



Other highlights of the week:
- a pedicure for me and grandma
- swimming in the hot tub with Uncle Jared
- Jace playing with cars and having Grandpa and Grandma help him look for a particular car.
- a girls outing to the movies (Ella's 1st time going with us)
- Star Wars
- making cards
- riding in the bumper cars

Jace loves hats

It is funny to observe how your children influence each other. Ella spends as much time if not more playing Star Wars and Transformers as she does playing with dolls and doing other girl things. Playing dress up is the exception. She does that everyday no matter what else she is playing and it seems that has rubbed off on Jace. He is especially into trying on hats. I can't really say wearing hats because he never leaves them on for very long, but he loves to put them on and take them off over and over again. He also loves Ella's play high heels. I think that is because the plastic makes so much noise on our wood floors.
